Hi Listers, I have ancestors who lived in both the Cherokee Eastern Nation (now North Carolina) and the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (now both Arkansas and Oklahoma). They arrived in Indian Territory (Arkansas) around 1828-1833 and the by treaty moved into Indian Territory (Oklahoma). I have copies of documents from both nations.
I list the name of the town, Cherokee district of the Indian nation), Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. Remember the early settlers (prior to the Trail of Tears) also migrated to Missouri as well and lots of information is also available there. During that period they moved into Texas (Cherokee and Rusk Counties). In my notes, I identify as much as I know so others who read my documentation will know as much as I do at the time. Also, because of the way Legacy handles sources, I prefix all of the Cherokee sources with "Cherokee" so they will sort together and using the source citation report are easy to share with other researches.
