I think I'm the someone, because I know I wrote that a while ago, and don't
recall anyone else posting similarly. Yeah, using the Suffix field for
Quebecois
"dit" names does make it tougher to use it for titles such as MD etc. On
the
other hand, I use it for both. I don't find it confusing at all. I just
look at that
field as being a bit "overloaded". Similarly the Given name field contains
both first and middle name(s). Also consider this: The place field is
just
one long field. There are not separate fields for City, County & State.
In my Datbase, there are entries with just a State, some with City and
State and some with all three. Is that field now overloaded because
sometimes it contains 1, 2 or 3 "separable" data items?
Also I just learned (from another posting) that the Farm name is like
a Prefix on the Surname. Well guess what, the GEDCOM standard
offers that very thing, as I posted yesterday. Guess what I think
should be added to cover the farm names?
I got a private e-mail today that at least one person on the list is getting
tired of this thread. So this will be my last posting on this thread
to the list (for a while anyway) If somebody really provokes me
I will reply off list. But I think all my postings have made my
position on "the Names Issue" known to all.
