Does he show up as any kind of relation?  I have some of this in my family.
 My one cousin is my 3rd and 7th cousin. He married my 5th cousin. 
When the relationships become multiple and varied the program, 
using  programming rules, finds the first type and holds on. To see 
all the various relationships between two people, the relationship 
calculator will sort it out. This may not be a bug, but a symptom of 
non-tangled 
families. (A person with all ancestors having exactly one space on the
extended
 pedigree chart is very unusual).
