Hi Martin,
The words "preferred parent" aren't there but if you do what I said when you move to the child the parents in the child's parent list that have the asterisk next to them will show in the parent spot in Family View rather than the ones that were in the main position when you click on the child. At least they do for me. I mainly use this with adopted children rather than step children. However I've just checked a step child and it works there as well.

I added a link from the child for the second husband so I could set him to
Stepfather (actually set the son to Stepson) but this results in him always
being displayed as the father when I come up the tree from child to parent.
I have noticed this before in other families and the only way to get out of
it seems to be not link stepchildren to the new parent.
