Legacy offers many different ways to add people to the
database, commonly called the family file.
You can click on an empty child area at the bottom of the
family page to add a new child (male or female)
You can click on an empty "parent area" at the top of the
page. Either of these methods will add the person AND
a link of the appropriate type (parent or child) to the "main"
couple displayed in the center.
One can also add people to the database using one of the
nine menu items on the Add item in the Menu Bar at the very
top of the screen. In all these cases except the last, labeled
"New Unlinked Individual" the person will be added with a
link. As far as I know The ONLY way to add an unlinked
individual to a legacy database is via this last item of adding
and "Unlinked Individual", unless you are adding a whole
file into your database.
So unless you are adding files to your database or using the
"New Unlinked Individual" item on the Add menu, everyone
you are adding is linked in as part of the method of adding
them. If you then go and add a link, you are effectively
"double linking" that person.
