Thanks for the UK viewpoint. Both my grandmother and myself have chosen to use our maiden names as our middle names after marriage. So, after marriage, that's how we sign documents. Since I HAVE entered us both with our birth names in Legacy, would you expect the AKA for us to be "Susan Williams Lane" or "Susan (Williams) Lane" ? I would enter the former.
Thanks,

Hi, Jack Using the wife's maiden surname as a middle name may be "normal" in your part of the world, but certainly *not* in UK. I would take "Susan Williams Lane" to be her birth name. At a pinch, if writing to someone in US, I might refer to her as "Susan (William) Lane", "Susan Lane nee Williams", or "Susan Williams or Lane" - this last is commonly seen on our official documents. Please, please, use her birthname as main surname, this ties her to her parents. All other names as AKAs, with explananatory notes if needed. Keep enjoying your family history - it should be fun :-) Regards, Mary Young
