Try "City in Blank Cemetery, County, State, USA"

I find cemeteries to be different than Churches or Hospitals as part of
locations, since the latter are buildings and are more easily recorded as
addresses. Not all cemeteries have addresses.

Guy,

I used a similar format to Chap's (a combined place and city name), but I
had it in the form:

Place in City, County, State, USA

This looked great on reports because it read rather naturally, but it drove
me crazy in the Location list because the cities were not in alphabetical
order when there was a specific place entered.

I was intent on maintaining the USA entry because I also have a large number
of foreign locations. Eventually I became brave enough to drop the USA
entry, like you have, and put a comma between the Place and City rather than
the word "in" so that the sort would be proper:

     Place, City, County, State

This gave me exactly what I wanted, and surprisingly Legacy did not complain
when I left my foreign locations as:

     Place, City, County, Country

In the Place field I use a cemetery, church, school, hospital, or whatever
is appropriate for the given event. This allows me to make a single,
standardized entry for each Place without having to use the Notes field to
specify the exact Place within the City each time. I can also put the exact
address in the Location Notes field when I have it available.

I have found this to be the best of both worlds and I sure wish that I had
tried it sooner. I think you should stick with what you're doing! Exporting
to a GEDCOM won't be a problem, since the entire location is just one long
text string.

Bob

Guy:

I like to be able to find information in the "Locations" list by city,
county, state, country. Therefore, I use the following location for burial
information:

Eddyville - Highland Cemetery, Wapello Co, IA, USA

The Legacy thinks the first part of the field is a city
    Eddyville - Highland Cemetery

In my normal sort on locations, this cemetery will show up next to:

    Eddyville, Wapello Co, IA, USA

which is the desired result; otherwise, I would have to look for Highland
Cemetery and know it was located in Eddyville, IA.

Some folks also use the following format for the burial location:

Eddyville(Highland Cemetery), Wapello Co, IA, USA

which also works great.

Just remember how the location fields typically work
    City, County, State, Country

where each field is separated by a comma.

The main thing is to be consistent with your data entry and figure the best
way you are going to be able to find a cemetery location when you need it.
