Michael,

I cannot see any "proper" way as so many variations are possible. There can be a ship known to be wrecked in a certain location and another simply disappeared after leaving a particular port.

My great grandfather died in the sinking of the Yongala off Townsville in March 1911. The official death entry shows the place of death as "Wreck Of Yongala Off Townsville, Queensland" but that was a guess when the entry was made in May 1911 as the final resting palace of the ship was not located until 1945 and there was no positive identification until 1958.

I have shown in my database the place of death as 'Wreck Of Yongala Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia' but that does not conform with the pattern for the Geo Location Database and gives me a unique entry in the Locations Master List but I have decided to live with it as the number of such entries is relatively small - I have 2 shipwrecks involving 3 ancestors each in 9500 names.

What is the proper way to enter "place of burial" for a shipwreck with
unrecovered bodies.

Mike
