Marie, Custom events can be entered in any genealogy program BUT be sure to check the results of a "standard GED 5.5" export if you want to share Legacy data with relatives and researchers using other genealogy programs. Also important to check file transfers if a different program is used for web sites and wall charts. Some genealogy programs will not open a default GEDCOM from Legacy 5 if the file has custom data entry.
View GEDCOM as plain text in Notepad. Look for lines with _ as part of the custom GEDCOM tags that might be ignored by non-Legacy programs at the time of import. Sometimes notes are moved to a different field (research in Legacy to family or individual note in another program.) 2 ADDR 2945 Cedar Ave S. 3 CONT Minneapolis, MN 55407 3 _NAME Layman's Cemetery 3 ADR1 2945 Cedar Ave S. 3 CITY Minneapolis I enter Census, year and a comment for each individual. A single transcription for each household is in the marriage notes for head of household, not repeated for each individual like a GEDCOM from 1880 census from familysearch.org. Census data in my files is planned to print on direct line box charts so I can "see" if members of the immediate family are missing from an available source. eg. older children working away from home or married. It is important to be able to "see" how a household changed over time and also to see if an individual's age is "off" in one particular census year. Source images and repeated details in endnotes are a chore to read compared to one marriage note per household. -- Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marie Peer" How do you enter an event for each member of a family at one times without having to enter it for each individual?
