Hi Jennifer,

I'm renumbering the MRINs the hard way...one by one. I wish I did know of an
easier way of doing my direct line all at once, generation by generation. I
haven't finished because I still have some gaps in my lines. Once I've
filled them in, I'll continue renumbering. Meanwhile, all the aunts, uncles,
and cousins are all over the place as far as the numbering goes. I'll have
to live with that. As long as we have Legacy, it's easy enough to find the
MRINs of married children. Also, I'll print a masterlist of the Marriage
List (sorted alphabetically by husband's surname). If I have to find a
family file by name, I'll use the masterlist.

I have renumbered RINS automatically. Go to Tools and scroll down to " renumbering RINS". Click on this and a window appears giving you several choices for renumbering RINS and MRINS. What I did for the whole family was to scroll through the name list and find the first RIN out of sequence. Then I went to Tools and Brought up the renumbering RINS. I clicked on this then choose which item you want. It will give you the choice of Renumbering current RIN (which only does a single RIN number) or Fill missing RINs from RIN greater than or equal to. For example RIN 400 was the last correct RIN so I would put this in the box. You will have to look at it to see what I mean. This second one is the one that will do the whole family. I have renumbered mine several times due to deletes etc. It is a bit of a hassle scrolling through 6,000 numbers to see what is out of sequence but better than doing each one singley. I think this could be done with MRINs but I'm not sure. I haven't really tried as the marriages in my family history are sometimes complicated. Maybe one day I will give it a try

You can also use the RIN numbers as the ID numbers. I do this as
well. To do this go to Options, customize, click on the "Other " tab
and it will tell you how to do that. It is on the lower left hand
corner of the window.

Hope this makes sense and helps.
Carol
