I thought most generations were 20 years. That takes you back 1200 years, which is still a substantial amount of time. (I may be a tad green-eyed, because most of my lines go back 3.)

The thought of renumbering my 60 generations according to this system is mind-boggling. 2 to the 60th power is ???. To say nothing of the vast number of crossings of lines (*everybody* with Icelandic ancestry is descended from the same people before 1500 or so, many times over)
