"Empty" commas and death "locations" due to the living? option may show up when Legacy files are transferred and print in non-Legacy charts, reports or web sites without a choice. Master locations tend to be long and repetitive for individuals or families with many events in a single location.
Custom data entry puts a database mid-way between a "standard" GEDCOM transfer of all details and a method that allows no transfer of important details by GEDCOM. Data entry is much easier when the exact date and location is known for every event. Real files are more likely to have conflicting dates for the same events in different sources and vague locations. I started one computer genealogy file of all available names in 1988 using a shareware program without any GEDCOM export and didn't learn about backups until a file of more than a thousand names was lost completely. Retyped all those names using one file for each branch and retyped them again after buying a retail genealogy program in 1990. -- Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathie Bennett" > When you print a report, you can restrict the printing of the "empty" > commas by clicking the appropriate box under Options -> Format: "Remove > one or more leading commas from locations" Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
