However, I don't see adding selected events to locations as a workaround so they could automatically be added to charts. If you add non-location detail in locations for birth, death or marriage, where would you put the location? And how does it read in other reports?
Certainly you need to keep an eye on the likely output you want as you decide how to enter your data.
Legacy TreeDraw, like most programs, has a learning curve. Certainly it's steeper than Legacy. It doesn't handle events well as you can't specify which event to use - it's all or none in the import. The same with photos. I usually only chart names and BMD dates, sometimes without locations. However, once learnt, TreeDraw makes really nice charts. You can add any text or photos you like as you edit the chart.
If I wanted to add Occupation to a chart, I think the quickest way would be to make a new temporary Legacy file to use.
First mark all other events private (in the Master Event List) and then export the Legacy File to a new file, not exporting Private events.
This wouldn't mess up data entry or other reports. You then need to choose in TreeDraw (Options > Preferences Import Fields tab) what parts of the event to import to the chart.

Before editing places, it is important to decide how the interesting occupations and other "comments" might print on wall charts. Non-researchers *need* box charts (in my experience) to "see" how they are connected to the larger family group. A plain text report or simple pedigree isn't enough for a complete family project.
One of the workarounds for wall charts is to enter non-location details in the location field. Found one program with an option to include a "details" field on charts but it has other issues in an early release that result in unsatisfactory charts with text cut off.
Downloaded but unable to understand the $40+ shareware version of TreeDraw. -- Elizabeth
