Barbara,
One way I've learned a lot about features is to "test run" some of the 
problems, reports, etc. that others post on this list.  A lot of times, 
people send us exactly the individuals they've added and what the report 
output is, or exactly the six steps in a search they've run and what their 
output was, etc.  Just open the sample database and follow their 
'instructions' - I've found out a lot that way!  and not affected my own 
data at all.
