Subject: [LegacyUG] Incorrect Information

Hi Hugh,

Is it really true that people will put wrong information into their Legacy
database, upload it to the web and then try to catch people using their
information? I'm wondering why anyone would upload information to the web
if they don't want others to see and use it.

I realize it would be nice if people credited others but then it is such a
compliment that one's information is 'good enough' to be used by others.
Someone just literally lifted 5 pages from a book I'd written. They also
used the same format in writing their book. There wasn't any credit or
reference and for a second I thought 'How dare they?' but then I thought
'What a compliment'. and also 'How wonderful that they are sharing
information I'd found. Getting information out there and sharing seems to
be the point and one of the most enjoyable things about genealogy to me.
(Who knows but that someone who gets that information will build 10 more
generations onto what I've done. :-) So if someone uses what I've
compiled, good for them, credit me or not, I don't care. I only ask that
they get it right, include the original resources (which this lady did do..
quoted my footnotes as well... good for her) and spread it far and wide for
other so use and not get their own feathers ruffled when someone else uses
their information.

Marie
