Hello Group

I have seen a lot of conversation as to what people keep in their sources. I
believe that all sources should be kept. I have seen many official records
which should be your "best source" to be incorrect. My parents own records
where wrong. They are still living and was able to correct them, but many
do not live long enough to find out that their records where wrong. My
father who was born in 1937 was born at home by a doctor, went through
school, went into the service, collected VA benefits, worked for 35 years at
the same company, and never knew his birth certificate was incorrect the
entire time. When he retired they told him that he was not who he was
because that person was female. It took him a year to get that corrected.
They assumed that when someone transferred it from the original someone
accidentally changed it. Last year we were at the township hall which is
also the local library, and was able to find the original birth record
signed by the doctor. It stated his sex to be female. Even though birth
records are sealed for 100 years I was able to get a photocopy of that
record. He was of course surprised. My mother's record same county when
she went to retire was told that she was not. She found that they have had
her name miss-spelt her entire life and her birth certificate spelling did
not match the name she been using to pay her Social Security in on. It took
her a while to get that mess straightened out. My point is I believe that
all records no matter of better or best source they all can be incorrect.
When ever I find a differing piece of information I always try to keep it,
duly note it.
