Dan:
Given all your strict requirements, the only thing that will probably work for
you is to use software like Visio, SmartDraw, etc. You will have to manually
reenter all you data in each box as opposed to using the data in your genealogy
program. You might look at Rootsmagic, but I don't think you will find what you
want.

Subject: [LegacyUG] decent charting software... please+

In the last few years I have looked around half heartedly for charting software
that gives me the freedom to create what I want, not what the authors of the
charting software want me to want. I want to design my charts from scratch with
the ability to show any relationships I want with any visual effect I want. I
want to be able to draw boxes and fill them in with ancestral information and
join them by connecting lines in ways that make sense to me. I want to be able
to save them and import
them into a page of a book I am writing. Fans and hour glasses and bow
ties don't cut it., using the charting companion. Tree draw is no closer. It's
tied to the family file and the presentation possibilities are like watching
paint dry.

The closest I have come is to create charts using MS Power Point, saving them
into my graphics program (Paint shop Pro) and then pasting them
into a document as a .gif or jpeg image. Any suggestions would be
appreciated. Thanks
