To add one more piece of information to this thread, when the Protestant 
group that practices "full immersion" blesses and protects an infant/child 
with water from the ceremonial font, it is called "a dedication". The child 
is not baptized; s/he is "dedicated" by the parents as a child of the 
Christian faith. The parents also dedicate themselves to raising the child 
in that particular faith with the help of all others who are members of the 
congregation. Then at the age of reason, the child decides whether or not to 
be baptized by immersion. This is true of the Northern Baptist faith - my 
four chidren were all dedicated as infants.

I have entered their information in Legacy as "Dedication" [a new event] and 
then noted their baptisms at the appropriate ages. Here's another example of
