Val and I have corresponded offlist. Each of us understands what the other is doing. I have a non-standard Event, so I should probably move that info to Notes or Burial Notes, given the certainty that Notes will transfer. Thanks for confirming that. Those Y's are going to be troublesome, and I need to give it some thought. Legacy is my choice of genealogy software. I have used several others, and for my personal use this is the best program on the market. But I acknowledge that other people have the right to make their own decisions based on use, needs, and personal preferences.. I personally know some people who think Legacy is to complex and have chosen other programs they find less daunting. So be it. My notion is that if they are serious genealogists, sooner or later, without any further coaxing from me, they will find their way to Legacy, and may never look back. -- Alice In a message dated 1/31/2005 8:55:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
I think Alice and Val are going in different directions and confusing each other. I think Val went from FTM to Legacy and had a hard time getting Notes over. I think Alice wants to go from Legacy to FTM 10. As a test, I just moved my 10,830+ person file to FTM 10 from Legacy 5.0 via GEDCOM. I used the Legacy transfer option. There were over 19,000 errors reported by FTM on import. However, in spite of these errors, all the BMD data that I checked went over ok. I've not found any problem with notes and the standard Events. Ya do get "Y"s in the death field for folks that Legacy figures are dead and for which there isn't a death date and place. I am NOT saying that everything is perfect and all those 19,000 errors can be ignored, but I am saying that checking a file for 5 minutes shows no major problems other than the "Y"s mentioned earlier. Alice I'm sure your notes will go FROM Legacy TO FTM without a hitch. And if they don't, it might be a good opportunity to suggest gently to your relative that you might be able to co-operate better if he/she switched to Legacy. jr Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
