SLC,
If you share data with relatives using different genealogy software or transfer your own files for different charts and web features, be sure to check the results of child-parent and spouse relationships. Sometimes parents are assumed to be the bio parents and couples are assumed to be married after a transfer. Legacy 3 released Feb 2000 used to change marriage dates to divorce dates when some GEDCOMs were imported.

Genealogy programs have different ways to show children of single parents, unmarried couples, living without dates, marriage endings, hidden (private) relationships and those with non-bio relationships. _MREL and _FREL used by Legacy in a GEDCOM transfer may be ignored by another program.

Sometimes sources have names of grandchildren or siblings without names of parents. Made-up parents entered as "Unknown" and "Mr. Surname" or similar help keep the relationships straight. A single family file may have a variety of data entry methods used over time.

Safest method is to include sufficient information in General Notes to explain any child with missing bio parent(s) and also the relationships of unmarried couples. Sometimes I enter a name variation (like a separate individual) so that a child included in a household for the census and the biological relationships are accurate for an ancestor chart.

1890's source with a "child" listed in census or family Bible may belong to an unmarried daughter if the birth registration is available. One man was described as a foundling who grew up in a good home but his descendants need to know that he does not have the same medical history as the other children.

PAF 5.2 is limited to the same relationship to two parents, and also allows non-bio parents to be entered. I need to reload PAF and re-test direct import with the new Feb 4 build of Legacy 5. Earlier builds showed children with multiple parents with blank relationships.

For a personal Legacy-only file, check the look of reports with your choice of data entry methods for any child attached to one parent or multiple parents. Editing in a word processor can change unsuitable wording but then the pictures have to be added one by one. Legacy reports saved as PDF can include some pictures but then the wording cannot be changed. -- Elizabeth

I have a few 'woopsies' [illig children] in some of my England lines that I am not sure I am putting them into Legacy correctly.
