Hi Folks,

There may be an answer to this question in the archives for this mailing
list but I'm afraid I haven't found the archives at this stage!

Unfortunately I'm more than 1,000 miles from home using a strange system,
web mail, and without my familiar tools and internet access and was hoping
someone could suggest how I might recover a file.

Last year I set up a Legacy file for a friend who I am visiting again and
when I try to open the file (maning.fdp) - get the message ...

ERROR opening Database
The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and
another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time.
Would you like to try it again?

What I've tried so far - opening file in MS Access (same error message),
trying to compact / repair the file in Legacy (5.0), checking the
properties of the file (not read only etc.). I have no idea what my
friend has done - copied the file to a different location when it was
still open in Legacy? Really only a guess - no firm clues. Her system is
not part of a network.

She appears to be running Windows 98.4.10.2222A

I seem to remember creating the Legacy file from a GEDCOM file for her but
can't find a copy of that GEDCOM file, or a backup of the Legacy file -
just the family file that generates the above error.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can repair the file so it will
open in Legacy?

Sorry - as I said, I'm a long way from home and out of my comfort zone but
would like to be able to help her out before I return home tomorrow.
(Currently in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia - VERY VERY HOT! and
returning to Ocean Grove, Victoria, Australia - a LOT cooler! :-)

Hoping someone can come up with a simple suggestion - please not too
technical!!

Many thanks ....... Susie Z
