Yes. I use an iPaq, and it supports this. -Robert -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of M. Brenzel Sent: Saturday, February 19, 2005 2:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Question Pocket Genealogist file transfer to Legacy
So Pocket Genealogist works with Windows Mobile 2003 OS? Dell's new pocket devices use this OS. Mary -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kevin R. Phillips Sent: Friday, February 18, 2005 8:48 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Question Pocket Genealogist file transfer to Legacy There are two (major) types of devices on the market... Those that use the "PalmOS" operating system, and those that use the "Windows CE" operating system. (It's still an argument on what CE stands for, Microsoft won't even say but "Consumer Edition" and "Compact Edition" are both possibilities) Software written for one WON'T work on the other type of device. In the last few years, Microsoft has been marketing them as "PocketPC's" and "Windows Mobile" so you won't see them labeled as "Windows CE" although that's what they still are. As mentioned, Pocket Genealogist uses the Windows type of device. Just look for a device that says "Windows Mobile" or "PocketPC" and you'll have a CE device. Dell, HP and dozens of other manufacturers make them. (Although not all are available in the US) They can vary in price between $200-300 and MUCH more. They are all pretty nice devices since there is a minimum set of requirements as dictated by Microsoft in order to be labeled a "PocketPC". Here's a pretty good place to start if you want to see who makes them and what specifications they have. http://www.pocketpc.com I appreciate Ken clearing up the confusing, I'm sure that the support person wasn't that familiar with Pocket Genealogist and wasn't aware that all of the data is transferable both directions. We spent many years getting Pocket Genealogist to this point and so far (knock on wood) have not heard of any problems with the 2-way sync corrupting data. (At any point during the sync, if we even suspect that somethings not right, the sync will abort and the Legacy database will remain untouched) Kevin R.
