I am using Windows ME, Legacy Deluxe Ver. 5.0.0.203, Build 4 Feb 2005.

I have been entering social security numbers (SSN) in my individual
records, but wish to keep this data private.  I clicked on: View;
Master Lists; Event Definitions; Social Security Number; Edit; and
checked the box next to Private Event.

Does this only affect all NEWLY added Social Security Events, or does
it grandfather the rest to be private? When I add a new SSN, the box
is not checked on private. An individual whose SSN was inadvertently
left unchecked has the event showing up online where I uploaded my
GEDCOM (5.5). The individuals who are specifically checked within
their event are not online, however. So for what purpose does one
check the Master List private box?

I did a test with Family Group Report, and when the checkbox is filled
in on an individual's Event and in the Master Definition, the SSN does
not appear anywhere. But when I uncheck the Private box, it does not
list the SSN Event in the Events list; but it DOES print it in the
Chronology page! If I remove the Master definition Private check box,
then it does print both in the events list of the individual and in
the Chronology. So something is very fishy here.

The help file says, "Some event may be private in nature and you would
prefer that they not be included on reports and web pages, and not
exported without permission. When you mark a master event definition
as Private, all use of the event is defaulted to Private and you must
explicitly choose to include them on reports, exports and web pages."
So is this a bug, or am I using it the wrong way?

Thank you,
Susan Daily
