Several have mentioned including the image number from census sources such as Ancestry.com or Heritagequest Online, this is invaluable. But don't forget to include the Enumeration District (ED) and sheet number. With this info you can go right to the page of any of the later census that have this information. Sometimes page numbers aren't included, and not all image numbers are the same.
