Since I don't know what you did, I don't know what you did wrong.

My file has about 85000 people, so I know this will exceed the Excel limit for spreadsheet lines. I did start the name list default print to CSV and aborted after 10 minutes. Legacy saved an abreviated csv which I opened and found as expected with data. I then did a Search of all individuals with Tag 2 (about 9400) and generated a complete csv of that. No problemo.

I didn't look very long but the only report that I found offering to print to a csv was the name list and it worked fine for me.
