I just received an offer for $10 off the regular price for "World Place Advisor" from Progeny Software. Does anyone use this program with your Legacy software? I would be interested to know if it does all it claims to do and if it is really worth purchasing. Is it seamless using it with Legacy?

I've got a copy of WPA and rarely use it. There is no integration in the strictest sense with Legacy. WPA will read the Legacy family file directly, but not at the same time as Legacy. Neither can you apply changes from WPA to the locations in the family file.

In a lot of ways, WPA is no better and no worse than Legacys' Geo
Database. This from a perspective of research that encompasses English
locations almost exclusively. There are errors in the data used by both
pieces of software which are not yet correctable by the individual.

By far the biggest gripe with both WPA and the Geo database is the lack
of consideration given to non-US locations. Whereas both providers have
some detailed knowledge of historical placenames in the USA, this can
not be said to be evident for elsewhere in the world!

My personal feeling: don't bother with WPA. You get nothing really
valuable for the money that isn't in the Geo database.

P.S. My copy of WPA was supplied to me free of charge and I still don't
think it's worth the money
