<<I have two family members that I know were adopted but their birth
certificates indicate they are biological. The parents of one even admit
that they went to the state and had the birth record changed. >>

All of our adopted children had new birth records issued, showing us as the
natural parents. This was according to state law, not our whim. Only
recently has open adoption become common. I know this hinders genealogical
research, but some adopted children prefer to remain adopted rather than
have their natural parents known.
