Rodney, I think it was an attempt at humor rather than bitterness.  In
America we love our heritage, all of it, or at least I do.  

However, I have always disliked the English reference to "the Colonies" and
I've had friends from England say that as recent as in the 1980's.  Don't
know if anyone still uses it.  Guess a nation that is still as young as we
are in comparison to the older established countries perhaps should realize
that we are still sometimes thought of as upstarts. <big grin.>
