The trouble is that even when I use [HusbFirstName] etc. for a marriage event I get the strange results that I first reported. i.e. The marriage ended when [HusbFirstName] is said to have deserted [WifeFirstName] [onDate] and gone [toDesc].[Sources] [Notes] I get - The marriage ended when Bill and Mary is said to have deserted Mary in 1900 and gone to the Moon.

Cheers
Jan

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Strange Happenings With Name Fields in Sentence Definitions

I just looked at the help file and found this...

Note: Some [fields] are meant to be used for individual events and others for marriage events. The fields for marriage events include:

[CoupleFirstNames]
[HusbFirstName]
[HusbFullName]
... any fields beginning with "[Husb"
[WifeFirstName]
[WifeFullName]
... any fields beginning with "[Wife"
[MRIN]

If these are put into individual events, they would not always make sense.
For example, using [HusbFullName] in the sentence for a woman that was never
married, or was married more than once, would not result in a name. Legacy
can't just remove the field, or leave it unchanged in these cases, so it
should not be used.

When Legacy finds a marriage-type name field in an individual event
sentence, like [HusbFullName], it just returns the current individual's name
information...even if that person is a female. Likewise, if an
individual-type name field is found in a marriage event, like [FullName],
the husband's name information is used by default.

In summary, don't use marriage-type fields in individual events and don't
use individual-type fields in marriage events.

So this may explain some of the behavior you are seeing. (I believe [CoupleNames] should also be included on this list.)

But I am still seeing a problem with the following event sentence used as a
marriage event...

My "Marriage Consent" event:

[Desc] gave his consent [onDate] [~inPlace] for [CoupleNames] to marry.[Sources] [Notes]

I have a couple with no children. I use this as a marriage event. When I run the Descendant Modified Register Report (standard format) from her parents I get...

Timothy Sewell gave his consent on 19 Mar 1804 in Warren Co., Ohio for Hester Sewell and Hester Sewell
to marry.9 It was witnessed by Amos Sewell and David Sewell Jr.

[CoupleFirstNames] seems to work ok.

Sherry, can you take a look at this?
