John,

To quote from the topic "Citing the Sources of Your Information"

"Assigned Sources Form

"When you click the Sources icon from the Individual Information screen, the
Assigned Sources window appears. This form shows all the sources that have
been assigned to the various pieces of information for the current
individual. This includes an UNSPECIFIED source, which applies to the
individual as a whole, and specific source assignments that have been made
to each event for the individual. Also included are any sources assigned to
any marriages for the current person."

Also....

Under "How to Document your Information"

"To add source documentation to your information:

1. With the individual in the Husband or Wife box in the Family View,
click the Sources icon.
2. The Assigned Sources screen appears. The list at the top shows each
event along with whatever source citations have been assigned. There is a
general category called UNSPECIFIED that can be used to document the
person's information as a whole instead of piece-by-piece."

(Caps added for emphasis)

A hint when using the Help file in Legacy. If you can't find what you want
under the Index tab, go to the Find tab and put in a word to search on. I
searched on "Unspecified" to get both of the Helps above and using the
Index, I looked under "Assigned Sources" to get me to the first one (that's
the window where the Unspecified event shows up). The cool thing with the
Find tab is that the word you're searching for is highlighted so you can see
it quicker on the page.

Thanks for using Legacy.

I don't think you are stupid Ann. I followed Sherry's directions to get to
the help that talked about Unspecified Events on the context sensitive help
from the Assigned Events Help page. I couldn't find any mention of
Unspecified Events on that help page.
