Not sure what screen you are on.
On the Individual Screen you can show Ancestor and Descendant Interest with options 0 through to 3. These are not set by setting direct line. You have to set them individually as far as I know. They're not something I use and I generally don't have them turned on from Options > Customise - Data Entry Tab - though from time to time I wish I had taken the time to use them when I'm getting lost in which branches of my great nephews family connect to my paternal line several generations back ;-) I can't recall seeing "not in current ancestry line" so I'm probably on the wrong screen.
