You need to do one of two things to make it easier.
1. Put AFN numbers in. But they may have multiple numbers!
2. Pick a random number (I use the ?correct? RIN.
Go to the Name List. All Bob Johnsons should be near each other. Example: 
Bob is RIN 453 and 843 and 9764 and 94138.
Put 453 in all of the Bob's ID fields (at the bottom). Once you are ready,
save file, MERGE, use find duplicates of ID numbers.
Check each merge, to have the lower number on the left.
