Hi Frederick,
There's no totally satisfactory way of doing what you want that works for
all reports. You may need to do some unlinking and relinking for various
reports.
Re a compact drop down summary - try the Descendant Chart
In the Report Options choose on the Format tab Pack information on one line
Untick - Put boxes around individual
You can include parents of spouse in this chart as well. I find it an
excellent summary of vital information to take to libraries etc.

Hi
A couple of questions please.
1) I need some advice about showing step children in relationships (and in
reports).
The details are:
1) Margaret Beveridge bn 1872 to Janet CLARK & Andrew BEVERIDGE. Janet &
Andrew never married and did not even live together.
2) Almost immediately after the birth Janet married Richard Watters and
Richard became Margaret's step father for her whole life.
3) If I attach Margaret to both couples she appears twice on Janets
individual record.
4) If I have Margaret as a step child and only set as 1/2 child
relationship Janet does not appear on Richards record even though he was the
same as a Father.
5) Is there a setting I am missing that flags someone as a step child so
they only appear once on the Mothers record and can appear on the fathers
and any Step fathers records (and shows as a step child rather than
daughter)?
2) I want to produce a compact drop line report just showing names, birth,
death. can I do it in Legacy and if not is there any freeware I can do it
in? I currently put all details into excell and print 1page wide by 1 tall
but keying it all in is a bit time consuming.
thanks
Regards
