I wanted to do the same thing when to share my research with members of my father's family - I wanted them to see everything that related to them, but not the information I'd gathered about my mother's family.

I went to File/Export and chose the Legacy format. Then it asked for a file name, so I made up a new name, than after that it asks you for the details of what is to be saved in this new file. At this point you can say that you want a Focus Group, and then go and define that Focus Group. I selected my father and his entire ancestor line.

The new file starts at Mum and Dad, did not include me and my sister, and contains Dad's whole line as I have it. The only mention of Mum's line is Mum herself.

Someone else posted recently about creating a CD for family members which contains a copy of Legacy, so everything that is needed to read the file is on that disk. The link given to the instructions for this was http://legacyfamilytree.com/tipsShareLegacy.asp - thanks, Glen, for this very useful information! :-)

Hope this helps.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Copying part of my family file to CD for family members

Hi Group,

I wish to share only part of my family file with some members of the same family. I wish to start with my paternal grandfather and include all of his ancestors. If that isn't possible I could start with my father. I am using the Standard version (latest build) and Windows XP Home. I've looked thru Tips and the Mail Archives, but have not found exactly what I should do to accomplish this. I copied the "Splitting Family Files" and "Share Legacy and Your Family Files", but still haven't a clue. Can anyone give a computer dummy some explicit instructions?

Thanks,
Marilyn Luke-Paris
