Hi List,
I have been using Legacy for quite a while and have researched not only my direct lines, but those of in-laws etc. I have over 30 "family trees" (Tree Finder) within my file and would like to split my largest one which is about 17,000 people. Some of my "trees" are one or two people as I am also doing a one surname search of my maiden name Urlaub. Also some are connected (per family saying, yes they were cousins and the same surname involved) but haven't found the common ancestor yet.

So with the smallest "trees" I figure I could go into Tree Finder and tag, wanting to keep them together in a new file, then export those tagged.

Now the largest Tree-- my line has so many indirect lines due to the in-laws, in-laws etc. How would I split this, keeping my direct lines and making sure I get my husbands siblings, his direct line, and also having my and his cousins, aunts and uncles?
I assume some of this happens with unlinking a marriage or parents?
I hope that makes sense.
I have tried reading the Archives and also my User's Guide, but that seems too vague.

Also, since I want to scale down my direct lines tree-- when I have the spouse of a sibling, should I include their parent's? I guess that is how the file gets bigger and bigger <grin>
