Kirsty, Of course, you need to install Legacy on the laptop, not just copy it over. Doing a backup of the Family File and copying the backup over is the easiest way to move your Family File.
As for settings and preferences, the usr files are the ones you'll need. Legacy.usr is the main one that holds the settings and preferences from Options > Customize. The others are report settings. If you've saved any report settings and plan on printing reports, you'd want to copy the .rs* and .rf* files also. Thanks for using Legacy. Can anyone tell me, quickly, what files from my Legacy program directory do I want to copy over to the new computer's Legacy directory so that I can preserve my settings and customizations? I'm not talking about my genealogy tree files and pictures, of course (I know how to do that). But what are the user files that track specialized reports, screen preferences, and stuff like that? I know some of them are *.usr files, but are there others? Thanks much! cheers, Kirsty Haining Seattle, WA :-) Legacy User Group Etiquette guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup%40mail.millenniacorp.com/ To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/LegacyLists.asp
