Perhaps Legacy 6 grown too large for trial downloads -- just guessing. Staff
first mentioned a Legacy 6 feature in this mailing list in August 2004 and
readers assumed it was nearly ready for release then.
One of the issues with downloadable software is the number of individuals
who want to try a large program file as soon as it is announced. Legacy 5 is
smaller than some of the other genealogy programs because essential features
like wall charts require a separate $40 addon program called Legacy
TreeDraw.
Some people changed files with the trial of Legacy 5 Deluxe and then didn't
want to pay for the registered version. Legacy 4 was changed in November
2003 to recognize GEDCOMs from Legacy 5.
Most Legacy reports with events joined together in computerized sentences
are edited in a word processor after every database revision. The cost of a
whole retail version of Microsoft Office with Word and Excel is about the
same as a basic computer.
Since December 2000, registered users of the standard (free) versions of
Legacy 3, 4 and 5 have contributed nothing to the development costs and
technical support costs. Before PAF 4 "free" download, the only other "free"
choice was unregistered genealogy shareware.
Legacy has 119 public updates (including the public pre-release files for
Legacy 5) since I purchased version 3 boxed version in March 2000. Some list
participants download the whole Legacy program file each time in case they
need to reload family history on a hard drive when their Internet connection
is not available. -- Elizabeth

If this is available already (to attendees) then why can't it be
downloadable for registered users to try.
