I agree entirely. However, I don't think the new list would need to be all that temporary. Just make it a pre-release list and once no more pre-lease issues are left to discuss, ask everyone to move the discussion back to the main list. When it's time for another pre-release, be it 7.0 or 6.5 or even 6.21454903, you'd have this mailing list out there for those of us interested in such releases and no need to have to keep re-setting up the list.
