Steve,
Many are using the select parent screen to get to the other line and this
changes the preferred parent.
To avoid this you can
go to Name List
choose > other father or other mother
and then you can explore that line without changing the preferred parent.

Lisa,
It sticks for me. I set the preferred set and can than look at the other
set.
Sometime later, I can go to reports and the preferred set will be used,
even
though the "secondary" set was the last viewed. I'm not sure what you are
doing differently.
