That of course is dependant on the software doing the threading.  Hitting the
reply button doesn't necessarily link the sent message to the message "replied"
to.  Different mailers may or may not insert an "In Reply To" header or carry
an X-Thread Header.  Other than the Subject and Date fields, I see no other
consistent way of threading messages.

In no way does hitting reply magically link the response to the original.
