Have you tried to open the scanned pdf file with irfanview. Irfanview may
be able to read it since most "image pdf files" are jpgs. I tried on some
image pdf and it worked.

that JPG files deteriorate in quality over time and usage, which is why I
used PDF. I have Legacy 5 Standard Ed.
