LUGers,

At the risk of looking really stupid I am
entering this topic. I don't use many of Legacy's
features, because I don't know how or they
aren't for me. This List has opened my eyes
and slowly I've expanded my horizons.
Mostly I do data entry.

I find "witness" as one of the many "event/fact"
categories when I edit/enter an individual or marriage.
For example, I attend a relative's wedding. I enter
that fact under my name as "witness" to their wedding.
Also I can put my name as a witness in that marriage
information using the same procedure.

As for census data there is "census" in "event/fact".
For example a child living in parent's home I might
enter under the child's record in "event/fact"
"notes" "age 9, living with parents at 333 3rd St."
and anything else that appears on the census record
I think important.

It seems to me that "event/fact" covers the witness
problem. But then my needs are simple. And I'm
probably missing Ron's point badly.

IMHO,
JimS

Hi all
So there is a work around, whilst this may not be perfect for some people,
speaking for myself of course, I think legacy is a superb program and if one
particular feature is not present I applaud millennia for what the program
is capable of. I looked at various genealogy programs and each have
different pros and cons and considered legacy to best suit my needs if it
did not then I would not have purchased it nor would I be upgrading to V6
when its available. The point here is if it don't suit you then use another
program not get the list boiling up into an argument, freedom of speech is
alive and well, have your say then move on.

Yup, you can add the "witnesses" in as an event. That way the "witnesses"
will be linked to the individual or marriage and available to print on
reports.

Thanks for using Legacy.

Workaround?

Ok you two - let's not start a flame war here! Simmer down!

The Witness feature has been requested by many users who switched from TMG and were use to it. We have a "work-around" that can be done until the database is re-designed to accommodate this feature and many people are happily using this work-around.

Thanks for using Legacy.
