Hi Jerry,
To restore from the original floppies, you just need to be able to open Legacy 6. You don't need any file open. In fact the first step of the Restore process is to close any currently open Family files.

Hope that helps further,
Cathy

Hi Jerry,
Some thoughts:
Will the Sample Database open in your Legacy 6 installation or do you need to uninstall and reinstall Legacy 6?
I can open the Sample Database and another family database.
If the Sample Database opens OK, try restoring your Desktop file on the floppies in Legacy 6 (or is it a copy of the database rather than a backup?) If it is copy, make a backup of your Legacy database on your desktop and restore it on the laptop.

The original floppies were a backup of the desktop (Legacy 5, last build before Version 6) I have the backup floppies from the desktop, but since I can't open the correct file on the laptop, how can I restore. Don't I need the "File" dropdown to select "Restore"? If there's another way, I don't know of it.
You don't say what build of Legacy 5 you were using. Depending on what build of Legacy 5 you are using, you would have to allow Legacy to do a database conversion as the database structure has changed. The structure for the final build of Legacy 5 and Legacy 6 are the same.
Let us know if that helps,
Cathy
