Hi,
I am a recent convert from PAF, so I'm in a state of confusion till I
adjust.
Dave's suggestion obviosly would work but is tedious.
The others, using married name, are not practical unless one has already
been entering married name.
Mary's suggestion, below, looks best but I can't make it work. For Second
Condition didn't you mean surname SMITH?
I don't understand the 3rd condition at all.
Best I can do is:
First Condition =
Male Surname Contains ____ [Tremblay]
(gets all males with my most common surname)
Second Condition = and
Marriage Marriage Modified Date Not Equal to ____ [today's date]
The second condition cuts list in half and includes only marrid males with
my personal version of SMITH. (Seems like there should be a better way to
select for all "married".
Next I view this list looking at spouse name.
Sorry to say, "PAF does it better"

Richard,
As I understand your request, you have three known conditions; the given
name of a female, the surname of a male, plus you have them entered as
married.
I have 10,800 people in my database. I randomly selected a couple who met
your same conditions and tried different searches. The best I could come up
with was a list of 21 couples in my database by using the following:
Female Given Names Contains ___________ [Mary]
Second Condition =or
Male Given Names Contains ___________ [Smith]
Third Condition =and
Marriage Marriage Event-Name Equal to ___________ [checked]
I just tried a few different settings combinations and you've probably
already gone through the ones I used. I hope someone else can suggest
something that will narrow the field a bit more for you but with no more
information than you have, I don't know other combinations that would
produce a smaller list of possibilities.
Mary

Subject: [LegacyUG] Search
| Yes, I know this problem has been asked before but I am such a
| devotee of Legacy that I keep thinking there must be a way to crack it
| with Legacy search power and some work-around process.
| If I know a woman’s married name is Mary Smith [with “Mary” and
| “Smith” the predominate names in my file – making a “Name List” search
| difficult] - but do NOT know her maiden name or the Given Name of her
| husband, how can I locate her in the file?
| If I should also know her birth place or place of marriage, I can
| narrow it down to a workable number using “Find/Detailed Search” – but
| with no other information beside the married name, then …!
| Help, please, from you puzzle experts.
| I have Windows XP-Home and use Legacy Deluxe v.6.0.0.64
