that JPG is already compressed so there is less redundant
information in the file and the compressing process cannot
compact it further.
The better reason for saving in TIFF is the fact that this is a
non-lossy format so all the original picture information is
retained. The JPG format is a lossy format and some of the
picture information is gone. This is only a problem if you need
to edit the picture later. After several cycles of edits and
saves of a JPG picture the losses accumulate and the picture
quality degrades.
