Thanks Jonathan,

For reasons of trying to make the user interface more intuitive I have previously (ver 5) used a small image in the picture gallery showing the title of the PFD, DOC, or XLS file that would be displayed if the "sound" file was "played". I then attached the PFD (or whatever) to the image and it all worked fine. From testing, it now appears that in version 6 only WAV files can be attached to images as sound files, (and AVI and MOV files as video files) thus defeating my attempt to improve the user interface. Unfortunately, changing the launch setting for the player that is used doesn't lift the restriction on the file extensions that can be attached to an image.

A feature I would really like to see would be the addition of a hypertext linking capability that could run other local programs and hopefully link to URLs. It could reside as an "other data" icon for each individual and if space is tight on the Individual Information input screen, it might be placed as an additional Note tab. The Picture Gallery just doesn't seem like a logical place to look for PDF and other related files.

The Legacy Notes are great for General, Research, and Medical information for the "usual ancestor" but when I get to brick walls I find that my notes turn into a research paper that becomes long, highly formatted and footnoted with lots of hyperlinks to other locations in the same and other documents plus URLs. All that capability is best accomplished in a higher power word processor, thus my interest in wanting to link those documents to the individual in Legacy. That can be done today but having such a powerful feature buried in the picture gallery under a "Sound"icon doesn't seem appropriate.

Bill

I had some trouble with this - I couldn't seem to attach non movie/sound files. Or at least I could attach them, but they wouldn't open/show anything.

The thing I had to correct was in Option/Customise on the "launch" tab. And to switch the option for Sound & Video player from "Legacy's built in" to "Windows default media player".

Now all the different files I have tried attaching open fine.

Cathy,

Have you checked this "feature" in version 6? I have long used the technique of attaching PDF and other files, such as worksheets, via a "sound" file in the picture gallery. I can no longer get that technique to work in version 6.0.0.66 Deluxe. I have queried Legacy Support but no reply yet. The PDF files open fine using the default system PDF viewer outside of Legacy. Ditto with a wks file that will not open via a "sound" file link.
