That's interesting ... I never thought of adding capitalization versions directly in the Surname database. You are right! While the individual information form won't allow a new capitalization for an already existing spelling (even if you have "Don't change what I enter" set), the master list allows you to create multiple capitalization schemes of the same spelling. Interesting indeed ...

I just entered O'DELL and O'Dell and O'dell in the master surname list.
It accepted all and allows entry of all. You must have Legacy set to not change what you enter and NOT to display surname in upper case. You seem to have to enter the variations directly into the master surname list and when you enter the name you must click the down arrow and select the variation you desire for the person in question.
It appears that, with a little work, you can have it both ways.
