Hi Carol,
There are two essential updates for windows. Make sure you have
the latest version of the Data Access Components and the latest
version of the Jet Database Engine. These two are critical to
proper operation of Legacy under Windows 98 SE. I don't know if
the Runtime Error 6 is caused by the lack of one of those updates
but it is an area to check. I think if you use Windows Update and
are lacking those two they should appear in your list of
available updates.

Since upgrading to Legacy 6 I keep getting the error 'run time error
6'. It is activated when I try to open up the list of names in my
family tree and then forces Legacy to shut down. I had no such problem
with Legacy 5. I have the Deluxe edition of Legacy 6 and previously had
the Deluxe edition of Legacy 5. The error even arises if I use the
sample family file. I have tried running a repair check but I still
have the problem. I've also followed the instructions to download a
number of patches suggested on the other number solutions pages for
Legacy technical help. I hope to purchase a new PC in January and
wonder if the fact I have a windows 98 second edition machine might be
the problem. However the patches I have downloaded should have updated
my system.
Hoping someone can help
Many thanks
Carol
