Thanks Everyone I think because I'm going to be exporting the file to other formats at times, I should use the variations supported by Legacy for people living around a particular period. It wouldn't be worth the effort for the abbreviation to be unrecognised and lost, causing much more problems than using it in the first place.
I appreciate learning this early in my research so that I can avoid pitfalls. I enjoy this list for the information that flows through it.
