I enter ranks under Events, for example

Event: Military
Description: Promotion to Sergeant
Date: 3 Jun 1864
Place: Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas, USA

I do not normally enter ranks as a title, unless it carried over into
civilian life.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Military Ranks?

I was thinking of placing my ancestors' military ranks
in the "Title Prefix" field on the Individual's
Information screen. Mostly it's to remind me of their
military service, but is it an acceptable place for
the designation? I'm thinking along the lines of
"Private Moses Gilbert". It's not used as a regular
form of address. Higher ranking titles, I suppose,
would be a way of showing respect for that person's
service. I do have my GEDCOM posted on Rootsweb, so
the info would be visible to the public. Just looking
for proper protocol....
